Camino Ingles

                Buen Camino to our pilgrims

St James Church is on 'The St James Way' which is part of the 'Camino Ingles' - 'the English Way'.  It is a waymarked modern-day Camino in the South of England, approximately 68.5 miles/110 kilometres long. There are small blue circle markers around the paths surrounding the church which help pilgrims to find their way. Pilgrims have been walking this way since medieval times, on their way to Santiago de Compostela (in Spain) starting from Reading Abbey.

We have many pilgrims visit our church, which is open during the day, every day. All are welcome to rest there and enjoy our beautiful ancient building, including the mediaeval wall paintings. We hope you will feel closer to God there. In the church building you will find two pilgrims stamps to help complete your passport. They are on the shelf on the right as you enter the church – in a pale blue tray: a large one and a standard size stamp. They may be on the shelf below, behind the curtain.

If you need a drink or some food, there is the Barn coffee shop and bistro across the road from the church (open 8-5 Monday – Saturday and 9-5 on Sunday). Close to Bramley railway station, there is a small One Stop supermarket (open 7-10 every day), Bramley Bakery (open 7-4 Monday – Friday and 7-2 on Saturday) and a pub, serving Indian food. For those heading towards Little London there is a pub there (The Plough). If you are walking to Pamber End, The Queens College Arms pub is 2 miles away, but along a road with no pavements. Queens College Oxford is the Patron of St James Church.
