Monthly Reflection

We believe in one God, the Father...We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God...We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

(extracts from the Nicene Creed)

For the next few weeks, these introductions will be based on our trinitarian belief. Christians believe in one God in three persons, who are all divine and equal in essence, but have different roles to play in the great work of redemption. It was 1700 years ago, at the Council of Nicaea in 325 that this belief was affirmed and a statement of belief was agreed. We say the Nicene Creed at every service of Holy Communion and it’s what unites us with Christians and churches throughout the whole world. We baptise people using the words ‘in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’ and whatever we believe about all sorts of things, if we can say the Creed together, then we are brothers and sisters in Christ and members of the ‘One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church’.
